Where to list and promote your business in Bedford

Compare a free BedfordDirectory.uk listing, Love Bedford and Google Business Profile, and prepare information that helps local customers.

Start with useful, consistent details

A Bedford shop, a Kempston salon and a mobile tradesperson need different ways to reach customers. Start with an accurate business name, a working contact route and a plain explanation of what you offer. Say where customers can visit you or which places you serve. Search a directory before submitting so you can correct an existing entry rather than create a duplicate.

Add a free BedfordDirectory.uk listing

BedfordDirectory.uk is our independent local business and community directory. Standard listings are free, with a business page, description, contact details and an optional image. Every listing reviewed by our team before it goes live. Choose your real base and relevant services; only select district-wide coverage if it reflects where you work.

Your contact email stays private unless you opt to show a public copy. Photos are optional; use your own image or one you have permission to publish. If already listed, use the owner-edit option to request a link to the address on file. The optional FastTrack + Featured offer and renewal terms are explained on How it works; free listing does not require an upgrade.

Check Love Bedford's separate offer

Love Bedford currently invites physical businesses across Bedford and surrounding areas to join its directory for free. Its registration page says home-based businesses are usually not accepted, although exceptions may be considered. Ask the operator if your circumstances are unclear.

Do not confuse this with joining an active BedfordBID. Love Bedford's April 2025 announcement says BedfordBID closed and the website continued under new management. It is a separate directory, not council registration or an automatic extension of your listing here. Confirm any paid promotion and terms separately.

Google profiles and in-person promotion

An eligible Google Business Profile can help customers find you in Search and Maps. Follow Google's rules for premises and service-area businesses, check for an existing profile and never invent a Bedford office. Online-only businesses are generally not eligible.

If selling in person suits your work, the borough council publishes market-trader information. That is a separate application, not permission to set up a stall. Check requirements, charges and availability. Whatever promotion you choose, keep details current and ask customers how they found you: no directory listing guarantees rankings, enquiries or sales.
